There is a treasure trove of Yarns to see at The Blue Box. A lovely selection of colour and texture that can make you go weak at the knees.

Colours are a big part of our selection process to buying yarn, also the quality and feel of it comes into play. When we first started buying yarns, we stocked a pure wool that was so rough on the skin and that taught us to avoid yarns that don’t feel good.

Every yarn we choose, we imagine what we would make in it. We would have a project in mind, make that come to fruition and knit or crochet up samples.

Patons SIERRA CHUNKY is a brand new yarn. Super chunky and will knit & crochet up super fast.

Lang Yarns SUPER SOXX 4ply. This is the first time we have stocked Super Soxx and now that we love it, we’ll be ordering more colours soon.

Sirdar SNUGGLY CROFTER DK is a staple in our shop. It knits up in fairisle for you, so you don’t have to.

Mirasol MISMI is THE softest pure Baby Alpaca 10ply Yarn. And the variegated colours add an extra element to this yarn.

Fiddlesticks SUPERB 8 Acrylic Yarn. We found this beautiful, soft acrylic that is fabulous to knit or crochet and has a selection of 60+ colours. It is also available in 10ply and 4ply.

King Cole OPIUM PALETTE is a variegated yarn with variable ply throughout. It is known as a 12ply and knits up beautifully in shawls and garments.

King Cole FINESSE is a luxurious Cotton Silk blend and a little touch of texture.

Brand NEW Yarn is Fiddlesticks MARBLE 8ply. This is a glorious two tone Cotton Blend.

Jody Long FLORA 4ply is a quality yarn, 100% Cotton ideal for shawls, scarves, shirts or wraps.

Azteca Moss Stitch Cowl

Quick and Easy Cowl to Knit.

Here’s a beautiful Yarn to make a quick and easy Cowl. And now you can make it too with this Free Knitting Pattern below.

We call it the ‘Azteca Moss Stitch Cowl’.

Yarn is actually called Azteca Milrayas in colour 706 by Katia. It’s gorgeous variegated colours in 53% Wool & 47% Acrylic are just divine to work with. This yarn really makes you want to get knitting to see the beautiful colours form.

Here’s what you need;

1 Ball of Azteca Milrayas

6.00mm 60cm Circular Knitting Needle

Azteca Moss Stitch Cowl Knitting Instructions;

Using 6.00mm Circular Needles, cast on 101 stitches.

Join stitches into a circle, making sure all stitches are upright.

Round 1; Knit 1, Purl 1 to form Moss Stitch.

Continue until work measures 20cm (or as far as the wool lets you), allow enough wool for casting off.

Cast off.

Resurgence of Handmade

Handmade Crafts Having a Comeback

It is lovely to see that ‘Handmade’ is back. We all put so much love into making our favourite patterns of Knitted, Crochet and Sewing projects that we gift to family and close friends.

In the past few months, lots of customers are loving Handmade Items. It’s great to see.

I’m talking Handmade Crochet, Knitted & Sewn;

Quilts
Rugs
Toys
Teapot Wraps
Table Centres
Clothing
Coasters
Dish Cloths

Whatever you can think of.

Why?

Well, here is my theory.

We see the same old toys in the toy stores, the same clothing similar to last years. It’s all the same items we are seeing or have bought previously. In this disposable world the rubbish sites are full of cheap throw-away items.

That is why at the moment…….it’s all about Unique, One-Off Items that make a gift special and will be treasured for many years to come.

The price is important of course. It has to be at just the right price. Trust your instincts when choosing Handmade items, consider the amount of time that the maker has spent and the quality of the materials used.
