Crochet Star Mat

What do you do with leftover Cottons?  Make a Pattern that can use all your scraps AND looks pretty.

Here’s what I came up with.  The Crochet Star Mat.  I call it a Mat but it’s really a Placemat, Mat sounds better in the title.  It’s a very colourful and vibrant Mat, I’m just loving the Rainbow colours that I was able to utilise.

Here are the leftover Cottons I had to work with.

I know you are dying to see the Pattern, I’ll jump straight into it….

Materials;

• Patons 8ply Cotton Blend – A full Ball is 50g, I used little scraps for the centres and 25g for the outer rounds.
• 4.00mm Crochet Hook
• Yarn Needle for sewing in ends, I recommend doing this when finishing a colour.

Abbreviations;

ch – chain, col – colour, cont – continue, beg – beginning, sp(s) – spaces,

sl st – slip stitch, st(s) – stitch(es), tr – treble.

Pattern;

Start with Colour Flamingo (col #25), make a Loop.

Ch 4.

Sl st into first ch, (to form your circle) then continue as follows;

Round 1 – 3ch (counts as 1tr), 11tr into circle, join with a sl st into 3rd st of beg 3ch. Sl st into space between next 2tr’s, keeping this colour for Round 2.

Round 2 – 3ch (counts as 1tr), 1tr in same tr sp, [2tr in next tr sp] 11 times, join with a sl st into 3rd st of beg 3ch. Fasten off col Flamingo.

Round 3 – Join new col Orchid (col #28), 3ch (counts as 1tr) in any tr sp, 2ch, 1tr in same tr sp, [1tr, 2ch, 1tr in next tr sp] 11 times, join with a sl st into 3rd st of beg 3ch. Sl st across (back loops only) and sl st into the 2ch sp, keeping this colour for Round 4.

Round 4 – 3ch (counts as 1tr), 1tr in next ch sp, 2ch, 2tr in same ch sp, [2tr, 2ch, 2tr in next ch sp] 11 times, join with a sl st into 3rd st of beg 3ch. Fasten off col Orchid.

As you can see, on this round, a lovely star shape forming.

Round 5 – Join new col Purple (col #22) into any 2ch sp, 3ch (counts as 1tr), 1tr, 2ch, 2tr in same 2ch sp, miss 1 st, 1tr in next st, miss 1 st, 1tr in next st, [2tr, 2ch, 2tr in next 2ch sp, miss 1 st, 1tr in next st, miss 1 st, 1tr in next st] 11 times, join with a sl st into 3rd st of beg ch. Fasten off col Purple.

Round 6 – Join new col French Blue (col #35) into any 2ch sp, 3ch (counts as 1tr), 1tr, 2ch, 2tr in same 2ch sp, 1 tr in next 2 sts, miss 2 sts, 1tr in next 2 sts, [2tr, 2ch, 2tr in next 2ch sp, 1tr in next 2 sts, miss 2 sts, 1tr in next 2 sts] 11 times, join with a sl st into 3rd st of beg ch. Fasten off col French Blue.

Round 7 – Join new col Aqua (col #17) into any 2ch sp, 3ch (counts as 1tr), 1tr, 2ch, 2tr in same 2ch sp, 1 tr in next 3 sts, miss 2 sts, 1 tr in next 3 sts, [2tr, 2ch, 2tr in next 2ch sp, 1tr in next 3 sts, miss 2 sts, 1 tr in next 3 sts] 11 times, join with a sl st into 3rd st of beg ch. Fasten off col Aqua.

Round 8 – Join new col Fresh Green (col #24) into any 2ch sp, 3ch (counts as 1tr), 1tr, 2ch, 2tr in same 2ch sp, 1tr in next 4 sts, miss 2 sts, 1tr in next 4 sts, [2tr, 2ch, 2tr in next 2ch sp, 1tr in next 4sts, miss 2 sts, 1 tr in next 4 sts] 11 times, join with a sl st into 3rd st of beg ch. Fasten off col Fresh Green.

Round 9 – Join new col Apple Green (col #16) into any 2ch sp, 3ch (counts as 1tr), 1tr, 2ch, 2tr in same 2ch sp, 1tr in next 4 sts, miss 2 sts, 1tr in next 4 sts, [2tr, 2ch, 2tr in next 2ch sp, 1tr in next 4 sts, miss 2 sts, 1 tr in next 4 sts] 11 times, join with a sl st into 3rd st of beg ch. Fasten off col Apple Green.

Round 10 – Join new col Yellow (col #6) into any 2ch sp, 3ch (counts as 1tr), 1tr, 2ch, 2tr in same 2ch sp, 1 tr in next 5 sts, miss 2 sts, 1tr in next 5 sts, [2tr, 2ch, 2tr in next 2 ch sp, 1tr in next 5 sts, miss 2 sts, 1tr in next 5 sts] 11 times, join with a sl st into 3rd st of beg ch. Fasten off col Yellow.

Round 11 – Join new col Orange (col #7) into any 2ch sp, 3ch (counts as 1tr), 1tr, 2ch, 2tr in same 2ch sp, 1tr in next 6 sts, miss 2 sts, 1tr in next 6 sts, [2tr, 2ch, 2tr in next 2ch sp, 1tr in next 6 sts, miss 2 sts, 1tr in next 6 sts] 11 times, join with a sl st into 3rd st of beg ch. Fasten off col Orange.

Round 12 – Join new col Coral (col #26) into any 2ch sp, 3ch (counts as 1tr), 1tr, 2ch, 2tr in same 2ch sp, 1tr in next 6 sts, miss 2 sts, 1tr in next 6 sts, [2tr, 2ch, 2tr in next 2ch sp, 1tr in next 6 sts, miss 2 sts, 1tr in next 6 sts] 11 times, join with a sl st into 3rd st of beg ch. Fasten off col Coral.

Round 13 – Join new col Bright Red (col #18) into any 2ch sp, 3ch (counts as 1tr), 1tr, 2ch, 2tr in same 2ch sp, 1tr in next 7 sts, miss 2 sts, 1tr in next 7 sts, [2tr, 2ch, 2tr in next 2ch sp, 1tr in next 7 sts, miss 2 sts, 1tr in next 7 sts] 11 times, join with a sl st into 3rd st of beg ch. Fasten off col Bright Red.
